In October 2021, Barcelona parted ways with Ronald Koeman after a series of disappointing results, prompting the club to seek a new direction.
Joan Laporta appointed Xavi as the new manager, despite concerns about his limited coaching experience, having only managed for two seasons in the Qatari league at the time.
Three years later, Laporta decided to dismiss Xavi. In January, Xavi had announced his intention to leave Camp Nou at the end of the season but changed his mind after being persuaded to stay by the club president, only to be fired a month later.
Former Barcelona star Hristo Stoichkov seemed to have anticipated this.
“Laporta said that Xavi wasn’t ready and needed more experience. Now he says Xavi is the best option for the club. Does he want to push another legend out the back door?” the Bulgarian told TUDN, indicating he foresaw this outcome.
