According to sources who spoke to CaughtOffside, Liverpool will soon begin negotiations for Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou, reportedly for a transfer fee of €60 million.

According to CaughtOffside, the Reds are leading the chase for the Ivory Coast international, who is also drawing interest from teams like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Kossounou has shown promise in the Bundesliga, and since he hasn’t yet accepted Leverkusen’s offer of a new contract, it appears that he will likely go this summer in search of a fresh challenge.

The 23-year-old’s contract with Leverkusen expires in 2026, so it’s possible that the team isn’t in a rush to sell, but if the price is right, a deal might be reached.

It is believed that Kossounou would cost Liverpool and other interested parties approximately €60 million. The Merseyside giants are anticipated to begin discussions as soon as possible, most likely within the next month.

Liverpool is chasing the gifted teenage defender Kossounou

Prioritizing the acquisition of a young center-back this summer has long been LFC’s goal, and it appears Kossounou is finally showing himself as a viable alternative for the Premier League team after thorough scouting in recent months.

Although Kossounou has been the subject of intense observation by other English club scouts, it is unclear whether United and Spurs will decide to intensify their interest in the same manner as Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano made it plain in an interview with CaughtOffside earlier today that United is also looking to add at least one, if not two, new center backs this summer. He named Antonio Silva, Gleison Bremer, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Jean-Clair Todibo as their top four targets.

Nevertheless, Liverpool is currently a more alluring choice than United given that they will likely play in the Champions League the following season.
